Have the publishers gone too far?

The lexicon reflects many changes and developments of the world today, but should all the new words be included in the dictionary?

According to the public opinion, publishers should be more selective when deciding to officially recognise certain words. Here are some controversial dictionary entries from the past year.
The slang word to twerk was added to the Oxford dictionary in 2013 and is often associated with provocative dancing of the American pop-star Miley Cyrus.

Everyone is now taking selfies; some people have even put their life at risk just to impress their friends and family. Kim Kardashian is blamed for the selfie craze and the invention of the word itself.

Kim’s husband Kayne West is also responsible for one of the entries. The word cray which means crazy was officially recognised in 2014.

Another recent entry is hot mess. Hot mess is used to describe a person or a thing that is unsuccessful or disordered. It also entered the Oxford dictionary in 2014
