Iconic dictionary includes slang words, WDYT?

The Oxford Dictionary publishers have worked hard to keep on top of recent linguistic changes and have updated their online edition with new slang words. Many of these updates have emerged from social media conversations where time and space saving are the main priorities. Pretty amazeballs, isn’t it?

We live in a fast-paced hyperconnected world where most of us are only a click away from each other. Your opinions and actions can quickly become public if enough care is not taken. Hot mic is definitely something to be aware of. A lot of private remarks have been broadcasted to general public which led to many embarrassing moments for various celebrities. As a result, hot mic earned its entry in the dictionary.

Another way of making your opinions public is subtweeting. To subtweet means to refer to someone on Twitter without mentioning the person directly; it is a mixture of two words: subliminal and tweet.

Many more contemporary slang words have now been recognised by the publishers, so ICYMI, here is a link to the online version of the dictionary: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/
