Editing

Besides many services provided by our agency (translation, interpreting, interpretation equipment hire, notarization of translated documents, consular legalization and apostille certification, script transcription services, dubbing and subtitling services), we also offer editing services of the documents that were written/translated by outside translators, those not employed by our agency. This service comes at an extra charge and is different to the editing of the translation completed by our own translators which is included in the price and forms a part of the standard translation service offered by our agency.

You will require editing services in the following circumstances:

1. If you need to notaries a translation of the document. If you have translated the document yourself or have downloaded a template from the Internet or asked your friends for help, in other words, if you already have a completed translation and require its notarization, our translator doesn’t have the authority to sign the translation before reading the document and making sure that the translation is accurate. As we are the ones preparing the translation for notarization, we hold legal responsibility for ensuring that the translation is correct. In this situation you will be offered our editing services. Only professionals with Russian as their native language and many years of experience in this area will be assigned this important task. The main target for the specialist is to check the translation against the original and assess the accuracy of the translation. We will be able to provide this service only if the original document is made available to us.

2. If any previously translated materials need editing, especially if you are concerned not only about technical correctness of the translated text, but also stylistic editing, making sure that the text is stylistically cohesive and reads well as a whole. If you require editing of a specialized text (cosmeticology, accountancy, metallurgy, etc.), your editor will be a professional with a vast experience in this field who will ensure the appropriate use of terminology and accuracy of the translation. Depending on your requirements towards the editing of the translation, we can offer you the following options:

  • if there is a need for correcting the document translated into the Russian language, your text will be edited by professionals, philologists, graduates of the most prestigious Moscow universities who also work as lecturers in these universities teaching theory and practice of translation and who are constantly in the process of refining their translation skills. Many of them are renowned authors of books and textbooks on translation, published by the leading publishing companies in Russia and abroad.
  • if there is a need for editing of a specialized text translated into Russian or any foreign language, we will select an editor, specialist in the required field who will be able to refine the translation scrupulously and professionally and make the text accessible for the target audience. As a rule, the edited text will be read and checked by the proof-reader.
  • if there is a need for stylistic editing of texts translated into foreign languages, the editing is carried out by professional translators who have the language of translation as their first language; this ensures high quality of editing. It is important to note that when talking about stylistic editing, translators, native speakers of a foreign language are much better suited for editing translations than their Russian-speaking colleagues. Many of us when travelling abroad have come across texts, translated into Russian by local translators. Even though the translation can be completed accurately and technically correctly, you can still experience some sort of mental linguistic discomfort. In other words, the text just doesn’t sound right! In order to avoid these types of problems, stylistic editing is carried out by native speakers of foreign languages. Stylistic editing is not needed for all types of documents – some texts like legal, technical or medical documents will require just the minimal stylistic editing. On the other hand, books, magazines, advertising and marketing materials aimed at a large target audience (information on the websites, annual reports, presentations, press-releases, etc.) must be stylistically perfect in order to have a desired positive effect on the reader and hence need to undergo meticulous stylistic editing.

3. If you have a good working knowledge of a foreign language and have completed the translation yourself, but unfortunately you don’t have any friends linguists who could assess your translation skills and do some editing for you. In this case, our editors will be happy to help and will not only provide you with an edited translation, but also with comments that will help you refine your translating skills.

4.If you need to edit the original text written in a foreign language by you or your colleagues. It could be a text written in the Russian language or any foreign language. In this case, the text will be edited by a professional translator/editor who has the required language as his/her first language.

Please note! Translation and Interpreting agency TransEurope reserves the right to refuse editing services if the translation presented is of a poor standard and completed incorrectly. In this case you will be offered our standard translating services with the stylistic editing completed by our own translators and editors.
